with regards to landing/taxi LED lights.
I got them installed and I am disappointed. From ground to air they look smashing bright. Air to ground the old traditional ones are better. I am missing the beam function of the old ones. These LED-light wave length seem to disperse and spread away rather than creating a directed beam to the touch down zone. I gained my experience while flying regularly from EDMY to Aberdeen and return every week, most time landing after sunset. I can not recommend to spend a lot of money on those led bulbs. I guess this is the reason why the new factory Mooneys are NOT equipped with LED taxi and landing light but with Xenon lamps. An experienced flight instructor who flew them installed in a Cessna 172 and in a Piper PA 28 reported the same experience. May be the efficiency is further reduced because they are mounted deep in the wing.
