Winter letter 2021

A couple of days ago, some of us have been meeting for our EMPOA Christmas event once again. Despite being able to welcome less Mooniacs than planned, it is a certain success for us being able to see each other in the present times. This year has once again been far from normal due to the COVID-19-pandemic but we could see small steps into the right direction. Unfortunately, those steps « back to normal » and the related spirit have been darkened in the last weeks at least in Germany and Austria.

When looking back at this past year we will remember the difficult departure into 2021 that we all felt. Our Annual General Meeting at Paderborn has shown in a dramatic way how much we all have been missing flying and the related activities : a record number of Mooneys and Mooniacs flocked to Westphalia for just one day. Once again we would like to thank our members André Niggenaber and Felix Bieber who organised this event made this evening on the foothills of Wewelsburg castle such a memorable one. At Paderborn it was also time for EMPOA to fill the vacant positions of treasurer and spokesperson: we believe that Tina Haug as spokeswoman as well as Dirk Klueppelberg as chief treasurer will set new and important priorities in their respective areas of competence. The membership database is being subject to a total redesign and we will be able to come up with news regarding our website soon. As always we ask you for your input in this matter since we need to know what you wish for and where we can get better.

Some organisational issues and an outlook towards 2022 must not be missed: the change to our new insurance broker AdVertum was and still is not always easy and from the side of our partner there had been some errors that we deeply regret. They have been addressed and should not be repeated. The EMPOA board is definitely supporting this change decision that was taken by our members in 2020 and ask you for your personal support by changing to AdVertum since our insurance conditions can only be improved if we have the « power of many ».

I am preparing two Mooney events for 2022 : the traditional trip will take place from June 30th to July 3rd and hopefully many speedmachines will set course towards Karlovy Vary (CZ) and Krakow (PL) where aeronautical as well as culinary delights await. Further information and registration formalities will soon follow via newsletter, website and our Telegram-chatgroup.

Furthermore, the next year will see an Air-to-Air-photoshooting for Mooniacs. Eight aircraft will have the chance of being portrayed and « shot by camera » on the backdrop of the beautiful Rhine valley. A professional aviation photographer will create memories that last a lifetime. Details will be coming up via the known channels. It will pay off to register quickly since we will have to do « First come first serve » due to the strictly limited number of participants.

Another project planned for next year is a small webshop where you can buy EMPOA- and Mooney merchandise. Such an offer has been asked for by many members and past experiences at events show us that there is a certain demand. We are therefore in discussions with possible service providers and will reach out to you as soon as news become available.

It turns out to be very difficult and costly to overhaul and service our two EMPOA liferafts Hamburg and Marseille due to Brexit. We therefore plan to buy two new liferafts that can later be serviced in the EU. The two existing rafts can be bought by EMPOA members in form of an auction. You can either continue use them privately or have them overhauled in England, they are in top-notch condition. If you are interested pleased write an eMail with topic « Liferaft » to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. until January 31st, 2022 and let us know your maximum bid. The two highest bidders will win the auction and after payment of your bid into the club’s bank account you will get your personal raft free of any shipping charges.

I wish all of us happy landings as soon as possible – fly fast and Merry Christmas !
