EMPOA Mooney-Proficiency-Training 2012

22.-24.06.2012 in Erfurt (EDDE)

Register now!Hello Mooniacs,

If there was ever there was an event on the EMPOA events calendar, which combines top class aeronautics with a good portion of fun and sociability, and as well increases the theoretical and practical ability with the Mooney, then it is the EMPOA Mooney Flight-Training! Even if flying has to be done here with a lot of sweating, groaning and under very demanding conditions, rather than having a comfortable pleasure flight to a pretty area on autopilot, you can look in almost ecstatic faces on departure before the home flight, and with sentences like “I have never experienced anything quite so fantastic”, hear them trying to put the experience into words. To take the Mooney to the personal and technical limits in such a specialised way, without compromising safety and always together with a flight instructor, who has as many flying hours in a Mooney in his flight book as some will log in their entire flying career, that it is already a flying experience of a very special kind.

This flight safety training, in cooperation with the american MAPA Safety Foundation, takes place on the 21st – 24th of June 2012, now for the third time, and also this year we have compiled a fantastic programme for you. And with this, we would like to invite you!

In contrast to the first two events it will, however, not be taking place in the lovely Black Forest, instead we have decided on a different location. The international airport Erfurt (EDDE) will be both the host and venue. Nearly perfect training conditions will be waiting for us in Erfurt: an extremely well equipped, modern commercial airport, coupled with an extremely dedicated airport team, an airport hotel close by and an attractive and historical city in the heart of Europe, finally - after difficult and tedious decision -made it easy for us.

As I am certain that not everyone of you is informed about what is waiting for you at the EMPOA Flight Training, I will briefly fill you in on the background and the contents: The MAPA Safety Foundation is a non-profit organisation of extremely experienced Mooney pilots, who have made it their duty to develop a training programme tailored specifically for the Mooney. This training in the USA takes place several times a year at various places throughout the continent, and for many pilots it is a fixed part of their flying programme. Unfortunately, in Europe one often looks in vain for qualified flying teachers with the appropriate experience and expertise in our aeroplane types. Therefore, thanks to our good contacts with our American friends, we are proud to once again be able to welcome to Europe a delegation of the board of the Safety Foundation. They will help us with this flight safety training and share their knowledge with us.

Although a matured programme by the Safety foundation exists for this training, held mainly in English, the individual flight programme is always oriented towards the ability of the individual pilot. The programme consists of a detailed theoretical seminar (the contents of which can be found at http://www.mooney.de/events/11-FlightTraining2007/Inhalte.htm), which takes place on the first day of the event, and of a practical part on the next two days. Following the preferences of the pilot, a combination of VFR- and IFR-training units are performed. The aim is, that independent of his personal experience level, after the training every pilot should step into his Mooney with new abilities and knowledge, and that therewith not only the safety is increased but also the level of fun handling this extraordinary aeroplane.

To make it possible for as many Mooniacs as possible to take part in this flight training, we offer two different variants: The complete training programme (PPP) - with a theoretical part and 4 hours of practical exercises with flight instructor. Alternatively, there is the possibility to follow up the identical theoretical part of the course with a reduced practical part of 2 hours of exercises. This, of course, reduces the participant fee and, offers a cheap entry for pure VFR pilots. Further to this, in addition to the catering, the flying programme is enriched with pleasant fringe events and a festive Gala-dinner, offering plenty of time for the exchange of personal experiences with other Mooniacs in a comfortable and social circle. We simply want to have a good time with fellow pilots and are looking forward to seeing known and new faces at the EMPOA Flight Training 2012.

But this is not enough: The EMPOA would like to familiarise pilots with the Mooney, who have never flown one before. New Mooniacs are always welcome and we will as well have a Mooney available for charter, to enable a competent instruction for this model of aeroplane.

For us Mooniacs, one other thing is particularly important, besides flying and our wonderful plane: Our partners and faithful co-pilots. Following the incredible feedback last time, and because the theme safety is at the centre of the event, we offer the Mooney Pinch-Hitter for all interested fellow flyers. Apart from gaining insight into the functioning and operation of the Mooney, training will be given into how one manages, even without a pilot‘s licence and fear, to bring the aeroplane safely down to the ground, if the pilot unexpectedly drops out. The Pinch-Hitter is performed using a charter plane so that nobody has to be afraid of using their own Mooney.

As you can see, there is a lot on offer again and we have been busy again making sure that everyone enjoys themselves. Now the only important thing is that we get at least as many participants as for this event as we had for the last one, to make the event an all round hit.

What do you have to do if you want to take part? Firstly, we would like you to fill in the application form on our web page. This will give us all your data as is necessary for further planning. You can find the form at the address

http://www.mooney.de/limesurvey/index.php?sid=94439&newtest=Y&lang=en.

(Registration deadline is the 20.05.2012). Then, we ask that you transfer the complete participant fee onto EMPOA’s account. We will only enter you into the binding participants list after the complete participant fee has been transferred onto our account. As the number of places is limited, and there has been great interest in the past, the selection follows the “first come - first served” principle. The third step is the reservation of accommodation directly at the hotel, according to your requirements. We have reserved a room contingency with special terms under the code “EMPOA flight safety training”. The exact details for contacting the hotel you can find further down.

We hope to have assembled once again an interesting programme for you. Should you wish to warm up for your flight training or inform yourself further, we warmly recommend reading the reports of the experiences of the last flight trainings (http://www.mooney.de/events/17-FlightTraining2010/pirep.html and http://www.mooney.de/events/11-FlightTraining2007/Erlebnisbericht.html). We hope that many of you are able to participate and look forward to welcoming you appropriately in June at Erfurt airport.

Dear EMPOA Members,

rainer_hutz_sl_2

I want to introduce myself as the new president of EMPOA and want to thank Thomas Hamacher for his dedication over the last few years. Thomas created the website "mooney.de" and had the idea to expand this to form a Europe wide organisation, EMPOA. He will still be there to help us shape the future of EMPOA bringing his ideas and contacts; he will be organizing the Mooney Flight Safety Training in 2012.

I started as an enthusiastic pilot of fast microlights and have now been flying Mooneys for six years, starting with an M20J and then for the last four years a Mooney Ovation. Birgit and I have flown our Mooney all over Europe and even across the Atlantic! I also use my Mooney for business trips where I appreciate the reliability and safety of this plane.

I am pleased to welcome to the EMPOA board Peter Kraus as our newly electedvice-president; he also has a Mooney Ovation. The EMPOA board is completed by Birgit Vogelbruch who doubles up as our treasurer and public relations person.

The EMPOA board has already started its plans for 2012 with the launch of our new website www.EMPOA.eu where we want to promote the interaction amongst all EMPOA members. Recognising that we are a European organization the website has been developed in French, English and German.

We have under development a new section "Fly together" which will enablemembers to arrange fly -outs and meet up at destinations chosen by them. So we can decide on short trips or weekend trips beside the main EMPOA organised "Fly-ins". We are also developing a new forum which will be multi-lingual to simplify communications between us all.

Additionally, we have started talking to various aviation service providers regarding cooperation with EMPOA. More information on this will be published on the website soon.

Finally, every EMPOA member will be getting a user name and password so that they can get secure access to the EMPOA site. We will be issuing these as soon as we have sorted out the technical infrastructure.
