Dear Mooney pilots, dear EMPOA members,

We are pleased to offer you the Mooney Safety Training 2026 (Pilot Proficiency Program) in June – a highlight in terms of safety and training!
This training is offered in cooperation between the Mooney Safety Foundation (USA) and EMPOA. For this purpose, concentrated expertise from the USA is brought to Germany to perfect your skills on the Mooney.

Event Overview

  • When: Friday-Sunday, June 12-14, 2026 (Ground training begins on the morning of June 12, 2026; arrival on the previous day/evening is recommended)
  • Where: Kassel (EDVK) - GAT Kassel, Conference Room (Ground Training)
  • Content: One day of intensive ground training, followed by two days of flight training (VFR and IFR)

The Program

  • Friday 08:30 AM* -  Ground Training
(Full day) Intensive theoretical instruction (approx. 8 hours) – by Mooney instructors and experts for pilots. Topics include Mooney systems, weight & balance, performance (“flying by the numbers”), as well as maintenance and servicing.

  • Saturday & Sunday - Flight Sessions
Flight Sessions Each participant completes two flight sessions of 2 hours each with an experienced Mooney instructor:
    1. Session 1: Focus on VFR skills, landings, stalls, and emergency procedures (meets the requirements for a Flight Review).
    2. Session 2: Focus on IFR proficiency (meets the Instrument Proficiency Check for IFR pilots) or individual depth (crosswind landings, autopilot training, etc.) for VFR pilots.

  • Networking & Socializing
    • Friday evening is at the participants' disposal. However, tables will be reserved for dinner at the Restaurant Hotel Schäferberg. (The exact time will be adjusted to the actual program schedule on Friday)
    • On Saturday evening (08:00 PM*), we will gather for a joint dinner at the Restaurant Timberjacks in Kassel to exchange experiences and maintain our EMPOA Mooney network.

  • Conclusion on Sunday
The flight sessions are scheduled to conclude around noon/early afternoon on Sunday, after which the return flight can commence.
However, in the unlikely event that adverse weather conditions force us to do so, we can also use the entire Sunday for flight sessions.

  • The following speakers and flight instructors from the Mooney Safety Foundation are currently scheduled (subject to change without notice due to organizational reasons):
Paul Kortopates, Winslow (Bud) Johnson, Robert McGuire, John Pallante, Parvez Darta, Geoff Reid
