Summer letter 2023

Dear EMPOA-Mooniacs!

For several weeks now our Mooneys have been taking off into a mostly blue sky. The numerous messages and pictures in our EMPOA Telegram chat group show that flights with our speedmachines have lost none of their appeal and that our members go places all over Europe again. Moreover, we can see how our fleet, which is already a few years old by now, is undergoing extensive upgrades and how the Mooniacs get their machines fit for the future with new avionics, engines, paintwork, and other modifications.

Already two EMPOA trips took place this year: the first one end of April to Faßberg, where Reinhard Kammerer invited us to the Lüneburger Heide. The landing on the military airbase was a unique experience for many of us and we could learn that three stars on the shoulder keep soldiers standing at attention even after retirement. The visit to the tank museum and the great dinner in Örtzewinkel passed by much too quickly.

Two months later, it was a stable high-pressure system that made our tour to Eu-Tréport and the Isles of Scilly a complete success. 16 aircraft and their crews will certainly not forget the wonderful scenery around the English Channel and the turquoise waters of the far west of Great Britain.

There are many EMPOA trips still to come and this brings us to the next topic: I have decided not to run for president again at the general meeting of our EMPOA in September in Mannheim, EDFM. Don't worry - there are no bad feelings or other problems, I will stay with EMPOA and you as member and organizer of trips and tours. However, I think that after ten years it is time to pass on the baton and in this way allow for new perspectives. I believe that together with my various board colleagues I have been able to achieve quite a bit. We have turned a small owners' club into the leading general aviation type association in Europe with well over 300 members. With strong benefits for the members, which were not always easy to achieve, e.g. the fleet insurance and our life rafts.

I am particularly pleased that our spokesperson Tina Haug has managed to optimize the communication channels within the club in a short time and that we can now offer you a structured platform both on the Internet and on Telegram, which is also flawless in terms of data protection.

I managed to convince Markus Wagner to run as the new president at the upcoming AGM. Markus should be known to many of you from trips and events. He is an extremely committed young Mooniac, who is also professionally anchored in aviation and has never lost the focus on small GA. I am sure that our Mooney club will continue to fly in blue skies with Markus and I therefore ask you for your support in the election in September.

You will soon receive details from Tina Haug on the September weekend, and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Finally: Christmas is coming sooner than you may think, in just a few weeks gingerbread will be back on the supermarket shelves. We are still looking for an organizer for our traditional EMPOA Christmas party. The question about the place and the setting is up to the organizer, it doesn't necessarily have to be on the Isles of Scilly ;-) Volunteers, please report to me or Tina Haug.

I wish us all many fast, safe and happy flights - fly fast and happy landings!

David Kromka
